What is Respondus LockDown Browser?
Respondus LockDown Browser (RLB) is a secure browser for taking D2L quizzes. It prevents users from printing, copying/pasting, browsing the Internet, or accessing other computer applications when a quiz is in progress. If a D2L quiz requires Respondus LockDown Browser, you will not be able to take the quiz with any other web browser.
Respondus LockDown Browser should be used only to take D2L Quizzes. It should not be used for navigating D2L.
Taking a Quiz with the Respondus LockDown BrowserIn a standard web browser, navigate to your quiz in D2L. Quizzes that require the Respondus LockDown Browser will be indicated by the text "Requires Respondus LockDown Browser" behind the quiz name. There will also be a statement "You must use the Respondus LockDown Browser to take this quiz" and a "Launch LockDown Browser" button. If do not see this message and you can see a “Start Quiz!” button when you enter the quiz, you do not need to use the LockDown Browser to take the quiz. Click “Start Quiz!” to begin in a traditional browser.
If your course instructor requires the LockDown Browser, a message will appear. If you already have the LockDown Browser installed, close all programs on your computer and click the "Launch LockDown Browser" button.
If you do not have the browser installed on your machine, follow the link in the quiz or below to install it now. Please do not download the browser from Google, as it may not be the correct version. Visit this link ONLY to download LockDown Browser.
You will be taken to the Respondus webpage to download the software. Click “Install Now.”
If prompted to close a background program, do so and then return to the quiz by click "Launch the LockDown Browser" button again.
Exiting a Quiz Early
If your instructor has allowed early exit for internet failure or emergencies and you need to exit your exam before it is complete, close the browser window. You'll be warned that your instructor will be notified if you leave the quiz early. Click "Close the Browser" to continue the exit.
Please note: Early exit does not work with Chromebooks or iPads.
Enter the reason for closing the browser and then click "Submit and close the browser." You will need to work directly with your instructor for quiz further access and questions.
If you are not able to exit the quiz by closing the browser window, then your instructor has decided not to enable this setting. In this case, you will need to submit your quiz before you are able to exit the browser.
